The “Les Marquises” parcel reveals an atypical expression of Pinot Noir thanks to its terroir, which combines draining soils and relatively mild half-day (morning) sunshine. As a result, this rosé de saignée offers very fine aromas of red berries.
Champagne Millésimé : 2018
Grape Variety : Pinot Noir Grand Cru
Soil : Sandy clay loam
Exposition : East
The lieu-dit « Les Marquises » expresses an a-typical example of Pinot Noir, with the chalky subsoil covered by a well-draining thin layer of silt. This lieu-dit is east-facing receiving morning sunshine and the hill named “Mont Boeuf” prevents it receiving the evening sunlight. This terroir delivers very delicate Pinot Noirs, we chose a short maceration of 8 hours in order to reveal this aromatic identity.
The 2018 vintage is distinguished by exceptional weather conditions, favorable to optimal ripening. After a vegetative cycle that began in the wet post-harvest conditions of 2017, autumn and winter were characterized by persistent rainfall, before a marked cooling in February and March. The sudden return to well above normal temperatures in April led to an advance in phenology, accompanied by violent thunderstorms. The summer, then characterized by high levels of sunshine and prolonged drought, saw a remarkable concentration of phenolic compounds. Thanks to the absence of sanitary pressure, the harvest was carried out at optimal maturity.
