The “Les Ribauds” parcel provides an atypical expression of Meunier: richness and roundness with hints of ripening red fruits. The soil’s loams soften the clays: there is a measure of freshness along with spicy notes in this Champagne Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature from Maison Lombard.
Champagne Millésimé : 2016
Grape Variety : Meunier
Soil : Sandy clay loam
Exposition : East
Volume : 75cl
The “Les Ribauds” Lieu-dit provides an atypical expression of Meunier. The parcel is located on a medium slope well exposed to the wind. The chalky subsoil is covered by a layer of light clay-loam earth and the slope/soil effect provides ideal drainage of rainwater. Yields are controlled; hence, the wines produced provide surprising aromatic richness, with spicy notes predominating.
Laurent Vaillant
There was heavy rainfall throughout spring 2016: an absolute record exceeding 1995’s pluviometry, with 513 mm falling in 6 months. With unrelenting cold spells, there were frequent major frosts from 18 to 27 April: rather late frosts resulting in considerable damage to a number of sectors, including Barrois. Summer saw the rains easing off, but brought extreme conditions in late August leading to widespread scalding.
